Male pattern baldness is an insidious process that wreaks havoc not only with our appearance, but also with our self-esteem. In a world that treasures youth and virility, it is very hard to retain your self-respect as you lose your hair. Men are averse to losing their hair for a variety of reasons, most notably the fact that it will affect their image. While we all know that appearances can be deceiving, we also know that the world operates almost exclusively by appearances. For all intents and purposes, we unconsciously believe that what we see with our eyes is the entire truth. When men begin to lose their hair, they are perceived to be “slipping”, “getting up in years”, or even “washed up.” For the self respecting man, such perceptions are neither pleasant nor acceptable. Something must be done to alter these perceptions. There are three main alternatives that you can turn to when you start losing hair. You can either get a hair transplant, use hair-loss drugs, or simply get a toupee or a wig. Of the three, the first to be resorted to should be a toupee, as transplants can be expensive and drugs can be dangerous. Men’s Toupees: An Easy Way to Protect Your Image there is point, how to choose a toupee: If you’re willing to spend the time and money, you can get a hairpiece that’s difficult to distinguish from the real thing. You Will Need * Your head measurement * A wig maker (optional) Step 1: Measure your head Determine your hairpiece size by measuring your head circumference. Starting at the middle of the forehead, wrap the tape around your head and back to the starting point. A 21½” head is a small; a 22½” head is a medium; anything bigger is a large. Step 2: Pick your hair Decide if you’re going to go with synthetic hair or the pricier, but more realistic, human hair. European and Indian hair are the most popular choices. Step 3: Decide on a base Decide what kind of material you want for the base of your hairpiece: polymer, mesh, or a combination of the two. Though quicker to tear and deteriorate, all-mesh bases are popular because they don’t trap heat like polymer does. Mesh bases look more natural than polymer ones, but they’re also more fragile, requiring replacement every six months or so. Step 4: Choose an attachment method Choose an attachment method. Your toupee can be taken on and off with clips or tape, or put on semi-permanently with glue. Tape is the most comfortable and most popular attachment method. Semi-permanent bonding needs to be reinforced every four weeks, and speeds up hair loss at points where the toupee is glued on. Step 5: Consider custom-made Consider having your toupee custom-made. It will cost more, but it will also greatly reduce the risk of people recognizing your “rug.” if you want to order a custom order, pls send email to me hair.owen@gmail.com
